Registration for Oberlin Linguistics Workshop: Applications of Acoustic Phonetics, with Dr. Zoe Swann

The Oberlin Phonetic Applications Workshop will give students an introduction to the following: How humans make speech sounds in unimpaired and clinical populations; Neural bases for speech, language, and related disorders; How to extract clinically meaningful, quantitative data about speech using just a microphone; and hands-on experience analyzing and identifying features of your own speech and from people following a stroke.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Students will also be given the opportunity to discuss career paths for those interested in language and cognition during a catered lunch from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

Students will need to bring headphones, a device with voice memos/audio recording capabilities, and a laptop with Praat (free signal processing software) installed.
