KAIROS is thrilled to offer this very special edition of our Monday "LUNCH" class series -- COOKBOOK FOR THE BONEHOUSE with internationally-acclaimed director/choreographer Paula Josa-Jones.

This hour-long improvisational class takes a playful and strategic approach to movement and performance. Paula’s class is grounded in teaching fresh and challenging improvisation and composition strategies, helping performing artists discover their own unique movement voice. By cultivating a vibrant improvisational practice students learn to connect the inner landscape of the body with outer expression and form. Class may include some or all of the following: sourcework, bodyscape/landscape, Deep Listening, Laban Movement Analysis, and Authentic Movement.

ABOUT PAULA JOSA-JONES
Paula Josa-Jones is a dance artist, choreographer, author, visual artist and movement educator and therapist known for her visually rich, emotionally charged dance theater. Her work includes choreography for humans, inter-species work with horses, dancers and riders, film and video. Much of Josa-Jones's solo work in particular arises from her own experience of being gender non-conforming, and movement explorations of the deeply complex architecture of identity and expression. Paula has been called "one of the country's leading choreographic conceptualists" by the Boston Globe and the Village Voice describes her work as "powerful, eccentric, and surreal". The Dictionary of Modern Dance declares: “her work lends itself to the imagistic world of cross-fades, a kind of supernatural visual exposure, with dancers moving across frames as if entering alternate worlds or states of consciousness.”

Paula has taught dance, somatic movement studies, composition and improvisation for the past 40 years. She weaves her knowledge of concert dance with Laban Movement Analysis, somatic and embodiment practices, Authentic Movement and improvisational strategies drawn for her years of collaboration with artists in many disciplines. Of her work with students, Paula says, "At the core of my teaching is a passion for movement that springs from an unpredictable, limitless aliveness in the body. Being in the body means experiencing it in a bloodful, breathing way that is transformative and improvisational - diving into the deep waters of the body and all its wild possibility."
