RISE stands for Reading Inspirational Stories to Empower
Through this program, students are invited to use their voices* to engage in local & national work centered around civil rights, social justice and Indigenous People’s rights. As our country continues to work and struggle toward equity, our intergenerational RISE program encourages students & local community members to work together; using our voices to build power and enact change.
Volunteers will visit classrooms for about 40-45 minutes and read inspirational stories centered around social justice issues. After reading a book, our community members will lead students in taking local action around an issue they see in the community.
All students will be invited to write a letter to their local district commissioner and Mayor.
