Thomistic Summer Conference Paper Proposal Submission Form
Paper proposals are welcome pertaining to any aspect of the relationship between faith and reason in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. Topics might include but are not limited to the following:
• Proofs for the existence of God
• The immateriality and immortality of the human soul
• Any knowledge of God, the human person, or the natural world that is presupposed by faith or central to the study of sacred theology
• The use of philosophy as a handmaiden to sacred theology
• Sacred theology as perfective of philosophical knowledge
• How the natural light of reason & its operation differ from the light of faith & the act of faith
• The relation between natural belief and supernatural faith
• The relation between man’s natural and supernatural end, between the acquired and infused moral virtues, or between natural law and divine law
• The tension between contemporary neuroscience and the freedom of the will
• The tension between, or compatibility of, evolution and Sacred Scripture or, more generally, between natural science and divine revelation.
Papers on any topic in the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition are welcome, but preference will be given to paper proposals that fit under the conference theme.
Please submit a titled, 500-word abstract by January 31, 2022.
