Richard Silvera Youth Scholarship Application
The Butte Sailing Club is honored to offer free tuition and materials to recipients of the Richard Silvera Youth Scholarship.  Based on 2022 course/lesson fees, the value of the scholarship is $125.00 per student.

Awarded students must be currently enrolled in a Butte County elementary or secondary school and have an enthusiastic interest in learning the sport of sailing.

Richard Silvera was an accomplished recreational sailor and had a unique ability to share sailing instruction and experience with interest and enthusiasm to all ages.  Beyond the Thermalito Forebay, Richard sailed at many regional lakes throughout our area and enjoyed ocean sailing.

Throughout his many years of supporting the efforts of the Butte Sailing Club, Richard was BSC’s Commodore, Staff Commodore, Lead Instructor and BSC Representative to the Feather River Center, and Oroville Recreation Advisory Committee, (ORAC)  Richard was also the chief designer and proponent of the future planned Feather River Sailing Center to be built on the Thermalito South Forebay.

Friends and colleagues would best describe Richard Silvera as a craftsman, trusted and reliable friend, leader, fun and competitive sailor, sailing instructor and mentor, motorcycle adventurer, fisherman, lover and nature conservationist, dog-buddy and overall great guy.

It was Richard’s legacy to continue to introduce youth to the sport of sailing.  It is through his scholarship that the Butte Sailing Club extends its sailing instruction program for the months of May, June and July each year.

Thank you for your interest in sailing and we hope to see you on the water soon!
